Re: DotNetNuke Help in PDF format is now available from the Market Place

It's kinda funny the Table of Contents is 26 pages alone! Yet some still complain about the "lack of documentation" (sigh) I guess I need to go write some more tutorials... :)

Re: DotNetNuke Help in PDF format is now available from the Market Place

The online documentation is good. Of course, 4.7.0 is out and the docs just got updated to 4.6.2, but that's better than it has been in the past. Most of the technical documentation is well over a year old. But the online documentation isn't complete, or even ordered very well for new users and administrators. For example, the category Settings, under Search Results, is this: Settings - Search Results settings. Not much in the way of help. And my pet peeve is that common issues are not in the documentation. Such as "I installed DNN and get a SQL Server error" or "How do a make a skin?" There are tutorials out there, some good, some useless, and there is a lot of help in the forums, but a lot of the DNN "experience" may not be intuitive to a non-programmer and the UI doesn't alwys make things easy. Re: DotNetNuke Help in PDF format is now available from the Market Place

I am one of those unfortunate gripers of the documentation. Sorry. It just seems that whenever I am looking for an answer to a question, my question is not addressed in the documentation that I can find (if I can find any applicable documentation). I most often resort to using the forums. Most often, I get my answer, but that is not usually an efficient use of time. When I look for information, I know where the documentation area is on DNN. However, those documents are old and not very intuitively categorized. Lorraine's documentation here appears to be an all-in-one solution (and the best stab at supplying documentation that DNN has ever had), but I think it would be more intuitive to most folks if the documentation was split up into sections and placed in the appropriate project areas. It is my opinion that this would be more friendly to those newcomers we have coming in daily. These same people would be much more likely to adopt DNN if they were to very easily and quickly find their answers without having to pay for the *entire* document in the marketplace. If they are just looking to know everything they can about the Repository Module, this no longer appears valuable to them. It has been a while since I looked at the online help, but that is because the information there appeared to never change and was very general in nature. I applaud the continued effort to supply documentation for DNN. I believe that in addition to the great things that DNN Corp has planned for the upcoming year, a greater focus on this and SEO of the DNN web site itself would push DNN over the top of those other CMS guys. ;) We are so close... We will never squash them, but it would be nice to be the "Google" of online CMS. Wouldn't it be great if DNN or DotNetNuke became a verb???
