I believe that Silverlight will drive growth in the DotNetNuke community. Most Silverlight applications will still require membership, authentication and access to data. As many in the DotNetNuke community already know these things are easily provided by leveraging the DotNetNuke framework.
With this in mind, I believe that more people will choose to leverage DotNetNuke for their projects when it is demonstrated that Silverlight integrates easily with DotNetNuke.
As for the future of Silverlight, the latest Beta offers three compelling features:
- Silverlight offers cross platform user experience that allows for an unprecedented user experience. Drag and drop elements, animation, vector based design, and audio will change the way web applications look and feel.
- The code behind is normal ASP.NET code. Controls are created and consumed much like standard ASP.NET controls.
- Visual Studio interacts seamlessly with Expression Blend. This allows designers and programmers to interact with the exact same files simultaneously.
I believe that in the next 5 years at least 40% of all commercial websites will contain at least one Silverlight application.
Are you excited?
I have created a new Silverlight tutorial that I hope allows an absolute beginner to get started making DotNetNuke Silverlight applications.
To get started all you need is the desire. You have to begin somewhere.
Perhaps you can [Start Here].

Re: Silverlight 2.0 Hello World [Start Here]
Michael:
Your tutorial looks awesome as usual. I have been watching the development of Silverlight with a lot of curiosity but have not started with it yet. I think that Microsoft is going to have to deemphasize the audio/video/flashiness of Silverlight a little bit in order to get business developers to adopt it for things other than social networking sites for teenagers. Maybe is my lack of experience with it, but if I'm developing Intranet ASP.Net apps, DNN or not, will Silverlight make my life easier?

Silverlight will make your life easier by allowing you to do things you could not do before. That's why I mention drag and drop. Yes it is possible with Ajax but not easily. With Silverlight drag and drop is easy.
