Scott Guthrie announced today availability of Beta 1 for Visual Studio 2008 SP1, which adds a number of nice features, amongst some really nice ones for ASP.Net developers, like improved Intellisense and formatting support for JavaScript, data scaffolding support, new ASP.Net routing engine and more, read here. IMO one of the nicest enhancements is the WAP and Class Library support for Visual Web Developer Express, i.e. that this free tool can now be used to create and compile WAP (Web Application Project) modules as well as the DotNetNuke core framework..

Re: Beta 1 for Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 available
Woooahh! Does that really mean that VWD 2008 SP1 is all I need to compile WAP modules for DNN? What would I be missing if I did not get the full VS 2008? How extensive is the AJAX support in VWD 2008?

Re: Beta 1 for Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 available
I really think the reason Microsoft did this is because you need WAP to make Silverlight 2.0 modules. I am still using WSP for my DotNetNuke site and WAP for the Silverlight module. So my DotNetNUke modules are WSP only the Silverlight module is WAP.

Re: Beta 1 for Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 available
WARNING. There are some compatibility issues between SP1 and the Silverlight Beta1 SDK, so if you're doing Silverlight, hold off. Also, be aware that SP1 is NOT un-instalable. You will be able to upgrade to the final SP1 release but if for some reason you need to "roll back" before it's released you will not be able to do so without completely uninstalling Visual Studio and reinstalling.

Hopefulyl my fellow programmers are usign a virtual machine to try this BETA. I lost the ability to create a web application after I did the install. I have done the install a few times to verify this.

The ASPInsiders group are also reporting some compatibility issues trying to install SP1 over VS2008
