One of the latest DNN project modules to be released is the Chat module. This simple to configure and use module enables multiple users to chat with one another in real time. A range of basic formatting tools can be enabled to allow chat members to format the text of their messages and send smileys.

The module uses the standard view module permissions to control which roles/users can view a chat, but also includes a unique set of permissions for setting the roles/users that are permitted to join the chat.

For more information on the features of this module check out the free DotNetNuke Online Help. To read more about this project and download the Chat more visit the Chat Project page.

This great community module is definitely worth a look! Thanks Stefan Kamphuis and Erik van Ballegoij for your hard work!

The current release of the Chat module is version 01.00.01 and requires a minimum DNN Version of 04.06.02.

Re: Have you discovered the Chat module for DotNetNuke?

Hello all,
I did download this module some time ago, and it works fine! Good job done guys!
However, I do have some remarks: This module will typically be installed on a page (chatroom) somewhere in any portal. But how does a visitor (guest or registered) know when to go to that chatroom-page while browsing the portal, if there is no sign whatsoever that there is somebody to chat with?
I think it would be a big improvement if there would be some kind of signalling (in the portalheader, for instance) that there is somebody in the chatroom.... Besides that, I think thet the chatroom page should open in a seperate browser-pane to let the visitor be able to browse the portal while waiting for somebody to chat with.... Otherwise I fear that my visitors will leave my portal very quickly.
Anyway, the module works fine and deliveres the message..
Keep up the good work!

Cheers!
