In case you didn't know (maybe you are still celebrating the US elections, or even recovering from your jet lag to Open Force) DNN 5 RC2 is out. Its only purpose is to give a heads up for the developer and skinner community, plus it gives YOU the ability to test the product to see if there are any issues. This will allow us the opportunity to fix anything we might have overlooked before final release, which I'm sure you would agree is a very good thing indeed.

Please - You should not use this for your live portals as upgrading from this version IS NOT SUPPORTED (bottom line) which means you might it very difficult if not impossible to upgrade to the final version, and even if you upgrade successfully you might be in for a bumpy ride later on.

If you find any live bugs, please report them here (please read instructions on the linked page on how to report an issue).

Before you report them however please check if the bug hasn't been reported already, the below points might help:

a) Check this PDF for outstanding issues known at this time for DNN 5 RC2.
b) Check the roadmap.
c) Follow this blog article on how to monitor issues in Gemini.

We very much value your feedback here as we wish the final release to be as stable as possible, the earlier you can test your installations the better. We would especially be interested in any issues with upgrading your 4.x portals (but if you do this, please do it offline and do not make the results available to your live users, again I repeat RC-2 is not for your live environment).

Those who have been hard on the case already - thanks very much for your help.

Many thanks.

Appeared to be some problem with LinkClick here, I've hacked the html link to the proper file path and it's working now - sorry.

Re: DNN 5 RC2 Testing testing testing...

I tried to Install the DNN5 RC2 for Framework 3.5, I changed the Web.config file and replaced Version=1.0.61025.0 with Version=3.5.0.0 and tried the Fresh Installation, but it did not work. What I suggest, is there should be a separate .zip or atleast web35.config (for Framework 3.5) file for installing/upgrading the installation to Framework 3.5

Re: DNN 5 RC2 Testing testing testing...

@Jaydeep, your upgrade path is best suited within DNN by going to Host/Host Settings/Basic Settings/Configuration/.NET Framework/Update Site to current framework.

Great !!! Great !!! Great !!!
I could not believe, that the upgrade could be so easy or so fast :)
Thanks a lot
(by the way, should this feature not back-ported to 4.9 too :P )

Re: DNN 5 RC2 Testing testing testing...

One more request, the ExecuteNonQuery of DataProvider is void (i.e. subroutine) but I guess it is mapped to SqlServer's ExecuteNonQuery, which returns the integer (no of records affected)

Can we please change the above ExectueNonQuery to Function instead of Subroutine ?

Re: DNN 5 RC2 Testing testing testing...

@Jaydeep this is an enhancement request, try logging at support.dotnetnuke.com. Also note it's unlikely that any new features or enhancements will be put into future 4.x releases, thanks.

Re: DNN 5 RC2 Testing testing testing...

I don't know if this the best place to say this; but the Image Gallery for the HTML editor consistenly gives me an error and I fixed it by moving the FCK provider driver into to the main BIN folder. I am sure that Providers folder is causing issues for a number of features.

Also the JQUERY UI classes should be brought in to the RegisterScript Command for the Jquery.vb file. That would allow a number of features to be used for both modules and skins.

Re: DNN 5 RC2 Testing testing testing...

@Colin

Gallery issue should be fixed for next version (already fixed in Gemini), JQUERY issue please log as enhancement at support.dotnetnuke.com.

Please (anybody), any further specific issues with DNN 5 RC2 discuss them at forums.dotnetnuke.com and log specific bugs at support.dotnetnuke.com rather than this blog.

Many thanks...
