I attended the Gilbane Conference San Francisco 2010 today and did a short presentation on:

Open Source Tools That are Changing the Content Technology Landscape

Open Source tools are dramatically changing our perceptions of software and how we invest in tools for content creation, management and delivery. Open source tools are created more cheaply by a broad team of developers, but also may require strong support organizations to make them work, so they are never free. This session will examine effective strategies for evaluating and deploying open source content management tools.

I co-presented the session with Aldo Bermudez, Sr. Manager of Web Publishing at Cisco Systems. Aldo and I did our best to provide a complete picture of the various aspects a customer needs to consider before choosing an open source content management system. I was very pleased that a number of session attendees approached me later in the day, shook my hand, and thanked me personally for providing information which they felt was valuable to their organization.

You can download and review the slides from my presentation here.
