walker_stacheSome of you have likely heard of Movember, some of you have likely not. So here’s the quick and dirty basics about the Month of Movember borrowed from the Official site.

“Movember challenges men to change their appearance and the face of men’s health by growing a moustache. The rules are simple, start Movember 1st  clean-shaven and then grow a moustache for the entire month.  The moustache becomes the ribbon for men’s health, the means by which awareness and funds are raised for cancers that affect men.  Much like the commitment to run or walk for charity, the men of Movember commit to growing a moustache for 30 days. ” http://us.movember.com/about/

Get the details on Movember

So what the heck does this have to do with DotNetNuke? Well, not much, except that cancer effects everyone, man and woman, geek and jock,  the same. I’ve created a DotNetNuke Movember team for the Employees and Community to join and participate in, to join the team visit http://us.movember.com/register/104438 and follow the steps. I’ll personally donate $1* to every person’s donation campaign that joins the DotNetNuke team on Movember.com to help you get started.

The Rules (simplified)_

  1. Start clean shaven on November 1st
  2. The MO can’t connect to sideburns (that’s a beard)
  3. The MO can’t cover your chin (that’s a goatee)

DotNetNuke Corp.

We are going to be having a little competition here at the DotNetNuke Corp. offices to see which of the two main offices (San Mateo, California or Langley, Canada) can get the most employees to grow a mustache for the month. The office that has the highest percentage of employees with the furry lip at the end of November is going to win a Pizza party in early December.

Party it up in Vegas

Some of you, and us, will be in Las Vegas next week for the DotNetNuke Connections conference, perfect timing for the start of Movember! I will have some Movember wrist bands (similar to the LiveStrong yellow bands) to give to people who are committed to participating in Movember and changing the face of men’s health. If you come up to me at the conference and ask for a wrist band I will give you one (as long as I have some left), but you have to commit to Movember and not shave the MO all month!

Have Fun!

There are lots of ways to have fun with this, joining a team, growing a kickass stache, making fun of other people’s mustache’s or even lack there of, so get motivated and have some fun this month, and donate some time and money to a good cause! Long live the MO!

Stay tuned all month long as we track the DotNetNuke mustache’s and their progress, along with a group photo or two at the end of the month proudly showing off our MO’s.

If you're interested in learning more about the work that is being carried out as a result of Movember funds, feel free to read the details at http://us.movemberfoundation.com/research-and-programs.

*to limit the impact on my new daughter's college fund I am going to set a cap at 500 people that I can donate $1 to!

Re: Changing the face of Men’s Health, Movember is upon us

That is GREAT! I'd love to see Scott Willhite with his Movember look. I think we would have to call an emergency SeaDUG meeting at the end of Movember just to see the results.

Good job DNN ... I like that you guys are having fun and doing something good!

Allison has consented as long as I agree to go with the beard too... moustache's alone creep her out (looking at Shaun's, I get it *grin*). I'll throw in $5 for any Seattle UG member who participates as well!
