magicwand If you’ve seen www.dotnetnuke.com today, you know what I mean!  As of today we’re sporting a brand new look, an extreme reorganization of our website content and increased visibility of community activity!  The change in our homepage alone should tell you a lot about what we’ve done and where we’re going.

Then
Then
Now
Now

A more contemporary look; clearer messaging; better organization; mega-menus; user group and community member recognition; social media awareness and more.

Two very interesting new features for community members include a Community Recognition System, complete with Hall of Fame and Daily Top Movers and launch of a new Video Library!

To give you an idea of the magnitude of changes to the site… consider this list of changes:

Type of Change Updates Additions Deletions
Pages 541 26 29
Modules 1583 3123 512
Folders 63 7 0
Files 272 129 2

We hope you’ll enjoy both the updated look and the new features.  It’s an extreme makeover… DotNetNuke Style!

The new site is WONDERFUL! It is 10,000 times easier to use then the previous sites.

Re: Extreme Makeover, DotNetNuke Style!

Really like the new look Scott. Thanks for all the work that has gone into this.

It looks like a few tweaks would allow the home page to pass the W3C validator. Wrapping the javascript in the ticker module in a CDATA would fix several of the errors.

Making the home page validate would be a nice way to show DNN corp's commitment to standards and demonstrate that DNN can generate valid markup.

Re: Extreme Makeover, DotNetNuke Style!

WOW! Nice job. Kudos to all involved.

I was browsing around and noticed an issue on the "Showcase Sites" page. I'm not sure where to post issues with the website itself so I thought I would mention it here.

As you click the "Next" link in the "Showcase Sites Gallery" the list of links in the left page is duplicated. When you first visit the page there is one set of links, click "Next" and the page refreshes and there are two sets, click "Next" again and there are three sets, etc, etc, etc.

Re: Extreme Makeover, DotNetNuke Style!

Thank you all. The kudos are appreciated but belong to lot of people who have worked very hard both to put the site together and to launch it. To list a few... Terry Erisman, Shaun Walker, Bill Walker, Chris Paterra, Joe Brinkman, Keivan Beigi, Chris Hammond, Will Strohl and more.

Re: Extreme Makeover, DotNetNuke Style!

@Chuck ~ I am surprised this was not caught before... not testing is ever without issue. I have been informed this morning that this is known issue with that control and is slated for a fix... my guess is that it will be fixed sooner rather than later *grin*

Re: Extreme Makeover, DotNetNuke Style!

@Nathan ~ WC3 validation will be there... just ran out of time to knock off the last few bits but we will be doing a lot of tweaking over the next few days and weeks.

Nice work!
Some pages have outdated information but thats an other story. Personaly I had chosen an other color for the menu. But this is a big lift for the site and the first important impression of DotNetNuke®

Re: Extreme Makeover, DotNetNuke Style!

Yes it looks good

However where was the warning that this was going to happen and that the site was going to be unavailable all morning in the UK?

I am an Elite client and had support issues that required DNN's attention and I was completely stuck!

Is there anywhere in particular I need to look to find notices of site unavailability? I checked the forum and there was nothing in there?

Disapointed as I said that despite being an Elite client I received no notification of this "routine maintenance" as the site said all morning

Re: Extreme Makeover, DotNetNuke Style!

Fantastic to see the update; The mega-menu alone makes the site a lot easier to navigate (plus the reorganization of course!)
Thank you for making it so much easier to find the projects downloads

Re: Extreme Makeover, DotNetNuke Style!

Looks great I thought I had come to the wrong site at first. Will this be the new skin released with future releases of DNN or are we stuck with MinimalExtropy as the standard. Anyway well done all looking forward to having a look around.

Re: Extreme Makeover, DotNetNuke Style!

Good job. Much better - my eyes feel relief. Love the mega menu. One thing that's always driven me nuts about the DNN menu system is that it doesn't respond to a wheel mouse click to open in a new tab. Now at least one other site on the net does...

Looks great.

Re: Extreme Makeover, DotNetNuke Style!

Is the menu used now part of the core DNN or what menu system is this?
Also what module is beign used for the slider below the menu?

Re: Extreme Makeover, DotNetNuke Style!

I would love to know how you executed the facelift and I'm sure it would help the community to understand how to maintain a large, live site. Did you clone the live site, make the changes and redirect your IIS install? Did you create new pages in the live site and swap out the old gradually?

Re: Extreme Makeover, DotNetNuke Style!

The new menu is great. Is there a plan to share how the menu was built?

Re: Extreme Makeover, DotNetNuke Style!

@Tim Johnston - We used DNN's Content Staging from Enterprise Edition.
@Jeffrey Lyon - The main 'mega menu' is using this skin object: dnnradmenu.codeplex.com.
@Mark Langille - The side menu is this skin object: dnnradpanelbar.codeplex.com.

Re: Extreme Makeover, DotNetNuke Style!

@SupaHoopsa ~ Point well taken, I'll talk with the Support team about how to best communicate scheduled downtime in the future. In this case, the site was down a bit longer than expected (we do try to schedule in the least disruptive hours) and so the impact to customers was greater. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

Re: Extreme Makeover, DotNetNuke Style!

@D. Dreumel ~ Thanks for letting us know. Every new program has some kinks to work out and we'll be addressing them as quickly as possible.

Re: Extreme Makeover, DotNetNuke Style!

@Mark Langille ~ As Chris indicated, the mega menu is based on the publicly available menu skin object... but it has some customizations to modify styles to create that specific look... it does not come out of the box this way.

Re: Extreme Makeover, DotNetNuke Style!

Very nice job Scott. Congratulation !
also the question is simple did you include this new skin on the next release of DNNCOM, or only The main 'mega menu' and The side menu ?

Re: Extreme Makeover, DotNetNuke Style!

Site change is a huge improvement! Very clean and professional. Having said that the previous site layout (by Nik K?) wat it's time, very advanced and featured a load of original skin objects etc, it just dated over time I guess.

Unfortunately I don't participate/contribute like in the 2002 days but it is fantastic to see the DNN ecosphere moving ahead with such passion. We are still avid users and will be for a long time. Cheers, Nick

Re: Extreme Makeover, DotNetNuke Style!

@Mark The menu is actually just some customized styling of the existing radMenu provider. Slider functionality for featured users is just some simple javascript in an HTNL module and the slider functionality on the community recognition bits is pure telerik.

Re: Extreme Makeover, DotNetNuke Style!

Did you create an item template for the Menu to display that way? I noticed the rmTemplate class was used. Any chance you would share that?

Re: Extreme Makeover, DotNetNuke Style!

Looks like we're going the wrong way on valid markup for the home page. I hope that will turn around soon.

By Nathan Smith on   12/16/2010 3:23 PM

Re: Extreme Makeover, DotNetNuke Style!

@Nathan ~ Yes, the markup issues on the home page are not a function of DotNetNuke, but of specific module implementation that needs to be fixed. We will be addressing that soon... thanks!
