Today marks a big change for me. As of today I will be working for DotNetNuke Corporation. There, I’ve said it!
The past couple of weeks have been very exciting for me. Last January I was approached by DotNetNuke Corporation with the question whether or not I was interested in becoming part of a new European office, to be established in Amsterdam. I would be wearing multiple hats: helping out with both support and sales, and also doing evangelism.
Although I think I pretended to be not too much thrilled about this, in reality, this question hit home like a bomb. If I would accept, this would be a major change in my life: from being entrepreneur for almost 15 years to working for a foreign company. Naturally, it took quite some time to come to a decision. In the course of a couple of weeks I had conversations with several key people from DNN Corp, culminating in a visit to the San Mateo office mid-March.
Al these conversations gave me a very good feeling. Even then, of course there are a lot of practical issues that needed to be addressed before I could give a final answer. There are clients to consider, and a few modules too. Luckily, last year, I co-founded a Cooperative of DotNetNuke experts in The Netherlands, named 40Fingers. All my current clients will find a good home with 40Fingers. Knowing this, makes it a lot easier to let go. And my modules? I will make them all available for free on CodePlex. So with the practical issues kind of out of the way, I had no choice but to accept the offer.
Kudos must go to the other members of 40Fingers, Timo Breumelhof, Stefan Kamphuis and Peter Schotman, because they were very understanding about all of this, even when all of a sudden things went down pretty fast. Guys, I owe you!
Anyhow, today is the day I start working for DotNetNuke Corporation. For the time being this will be from home, because we don’t have an office yet. In the next few weeks, we will select an office somewhere in Amsterdam, and hire more people.
I’m very excited about all this, and really looking forward to new challenges! Of course I will remain active in the community; I feel that that is a requirement of my new job. Please feel free to connect to me on different social networks such as LinkedIn, FaceBook and Twitter. Or just drop me a mail at erik.vanballegoij@dnncorp.com.
