Using the DotNetNuke Azure Accelerator

by Joe Brinkman on Thursday, August 18, 2011 8:01 AM

dnn-in-cloudLate last year, I began work on getting DotNetNuke to run on Windows Azure. After a few months of research and numerous dead-ends, I finally had a fully working prototype. During this same period, David Rodríguez, was also doing some work with DotNetNuke and Azure as well.

After working through a few dead-ends of his own, David found the Azure Accelerator project from Slalom Consulting and decided to use this as a base for developing a DotNetNuke version. David has extended the original project to include an installation wizard which greatly simplifies the installation process. In addition, David has incorporated SMB support as suggested by the Windows Azure Storage team. These are just a few of the enhancements that David has included in the project with many more currently in development.

Below, I walk through using the new DotNetNuke Azure Accelerator 6.0 to install DotNetNuke on Windows Azure.

Hi Joe,
Are you saying that there are two solutions for getting DNN on Azure (i.e. yours and David's)? I am a little confused by your first paragraph.
Thx

@Laurence - There is only one solution. I had working prototypes, but nothing that I would hand out to users. Ultimately, using the knowledge I had gained working on the protofypes, I was able to provide a little guidance to help David take a different direction which ultimately led to the DNN Azure Accelerator. The DNN Azure Accelerator is the one and only "production" solution that I know of right now.

Hi Joe, is there any estimation on when this will be able to run on more than one instance?
