Hi Damith. That's not a stupid question at all.

You need to get just the library to compile, and to do that, you would right-click on the DotNetNuke.Library and select Build. That will blow up, of course, since it has a whole bunch of references missing (to OXML and so forth).

So to fix that before trying again, right-click on the DotNetNuke.Library --> Add Reference and add a reference to the DotNetNuke.Syndication. Now, I admit this makes no sense since the project seems to be INSIDE the library. But it's not: it's a C# project (yes, I ALSO thought that DNN was written 100% in VB).

After you add the DotNetNuke.Syndication ref, the compile will proceed with no errors (in 4.0.81 at least).

Now I have to go try a precompile.

Best,
Daniel

On the other hand, precompilation is NOT supported on DotNetNuke. Not supported. Check this thread http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/ForumsDotNetNuke/tabid/795/forumid/107/threadid/14873/scope/posts/Default.aspx for the truth of the matter, where one of the Core Team guys explains this clearly.

On a third hand, what does precompilation get you? Quicker startup times for your app and little else (well, source code security, but you can precompile YOUR modules). So check out something like http://www.montastic.com for something that will keep your app from being taken out of service.

Hi Michael,

I have added a work item requesting that the core team allow configuration of the ApplicationResourceDirectory at the web.config level, so that no core recompile is necessary to use the "Publish Web" VS feature.  Url is http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue/ViewIssue.aspx?id=7360&PROJID=2.  Take a look and add any comments, and/or vote it up so that we maximize chances of seeing it implemented.

Brandon

Edit: Alex, responding (as usual) with super-human speed, moved my support item to the core project.  Updated url accordingly.
