I have DNN 4.4.1 using SQL server 2003.  I cannot create any new Portals.  When I click on "Create Portal" on the "Add New Portal" page it just says "Error creating Portal" at the top of the page.  This is the same whether trying to create a Parent or Child Portal.  The logs do not show anything so I have no clue what is failing.

This server has been running DNN for about 2 years.  I updated DNN to 4.4.1 in May '07.  I had no problems after the update, and could create new Portals.  This problem suddenly started about a month back.  There have been no changes to the server since May so I have no idea what might have caused this problem.

I have spent the last several weeks searching the forums and have found several post on similar problems.  None of the solutions posted have worked for my problem though.  I have tried running the SQL Script updates from the previous versions forward.  I have removed all of the templates and verified that I have the correct version of the default "DotNetNuke" template.  I have updated to versions 4.5.5 & 4.6.2 of DNN (restored back to 4.4.1 until issue is fixed).  None of these made and difference in being able to create a new Portal.  Thankfully I had several Portals I was just using for testing and have been able to use them when I've needed a new Portal while trying to find a solution.  However I have ran out of extra Portals and still have no idea how to fix this problem.  This has become very urgent!

Thanks for any help you can provide!

I am having the same problem.  I had a portal that was running fine with 4.4.1.  In fact, I created a new child portal last week with no problems.  Yesterday I upgraded from 4.4.1 to 4.5.2 to 4.6.2 to 4.7 since I heard that a direct upgrade from 4.4.1 to 4.7 wasn't adviseable.  The upgrades went fine, including upgrading the core modules.  There were no errors thrown during the upgrades except now I cannot add portals.  I get the "Error Creating Portal" message when trying to add a child portal.  When I try to add a parent portal I get a "portal name already exists" message.  I don't get any messages in error log.

Any help to solve this would be greatly appreciated.

The Portal Alias Name You Specified Already Exists. Please Choose A Different Portal Alias.

SAme issue here.  I am running DNN 4.7 and did an upgrade from 4.6.2 a week ago.  Everything went well but I did not realize until today that I can not create new portals.  It always says "... alias already exists" even though they clearly do not.

Please help!
