I wonder if the dnn forum module is certified too?

I have some questions and concerns now with the direction everything is taking.  What does some of this mean?

I can see additional support, discounts, access to DNN Corp Engineering (not sure what that is but does it mean less input, and focus on an OpenSource Community?)

DotNetNuke Professional Edition contains all the powerful, usable and extensible features that have made the DotNetNuke Framework so successful, with added security, support and stability features required by many businesses for mission-critical environments.

As Cathal said here - http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/118/threadid/289479/scope/posts/threadpage/2/Default.aspx...

"There is only 1 source code repository for the core code the PE version simply overlays a few elements during the build process (e.g. new skin, licence module). All security analysis is done on the core repository and all fixes go into it."

So is securirty analysis and fixes available for all, or does the Professional Edition have added security?

Also a little concerned when stability is also pointed out. Will the Community Edition now have stability patches also when they are available?

  • A tested and certified build of DotNetNuke- we will also support the instance you currently have as a special case; if required

Will the Community edition no longer be tested?

Not entirely sure what the certified is getting at either.

  • Product copyright indemnification

Will there now be changes made to the copyright and licensing of DotNetNuke?  What will be the difference that this implies?

  • Unlimited portals

Is this referring to the Community Edition no longer enabling unlimited portals in a single instance?  Or, and I'm hoping... does it simply mean the Professional Edition also allows unlimited portals.

I'm not sure what others might be thinking but these are just some of the questions that are immediately popping into my head when I read something like this.

David,

They're valid questions, but at this point only DNN Corp can provide the answers, lets wait for further defintition from them before leaping to any assumptions.

Just re-read the post and thought I'd come back. One thing that's easy to clear up is your "unlimited portals". The mail was regarding the pro version so all those points are about Pro,so it means that pro supports unlimited portals i.e. only 1 copy of the code in memory, but as many portals as you want. The "in memory" part means only 1 copy running under IIS i.e you can't create 50 IIS instances and point them all at the same folder, as each would load a copy of dotnetnuke in memory, but you can of course have 1 IIS instance pointing to 1 dotnetnuke folder that runs as many child/parent portals as you like

Regarding CE, don't forger that 4.9.2 is the first CE version released , so you already have all the answers that you need in your hands. As you can see it's a "normal" dotnetnuke release.

Cathal
