We require the ASP.NET account (usually Network Service) to have write access on folders that we touch.  

In past versions you could lock down your security so that only the bin, DesktopModules and Portals folders required this access.

In DNN 6.1 we also require access to the App_Data folder - so that the ClientDependency Framework can do its thing.

Not all ISPs may be aware of this.

Our permissions check states that all it does is check the permissions on the root folder - this error is a permission failure on a child folder.

We are considering adding permissions checks on subfolders as well.  Make sure that the ASP.NET account has write access to App_Data and it should be ok.

Hi All,
I noticed that a lot of people are having different issues with the ASP.NET permissions being set correctly for DNN. If you're not hosted with PowerDNN, I would recommend giving your IIS application pool user FULL CONTROL over the entire DotNetNuke web root folder - this should solve these problems for you. If you're selectively giving permissions, you should expect that you'll have problems.

If you're looking for a hosting provider, our servers are fully compatible with DNN 6.1 and permissions are set correctly out of the gates. Additionally, you'll never need to install DNN yourself since our engineers take care of that process for you

Hi Ian,
I actually appreciate the perspective that Tony has provided. To be perfectly honest, I called Tony this afternoon to find out if any of his customers were having similar problems. I also wanted to know his perspective on this particular issue. We are trying to determine the severity of this problem. Feedback from the hosting provider with the largest number of DotNetNuke installations is extremely important. Tony was only further validating items that others were suggesting previously in this post.

I understand that this is frustrating. We are only trying to figure out the best way to help those with this problem.
