Multiple controls with the same ID 'ScriptManager' were found.   I recieved this error only after upgrading to 4.7.  

but I only saw the error on my local host and I have an identical on the server where I did not see the error. 

I deleted the modules on the page and the error went away.

This is a very interesting issue as I have noticed this on some client sites and have yet to find the true reason for the error.

After you deleted the modules were you able to re-add them later without any issue?

I quit working with that module so I really could not say.  It would not go away, when I deleted the module it went away and I did not get anymore that day.  but I have not used the module much since then.  I will in the following weeks.  If i do not post then then all the errors went away for good.

I'm getting this same error message. It started after I upgraded to 4.8 (upgraded from 4.5). For me it is appearing on admin pages where there are no modules to delete to make it go away. After several attempts at reloading the page eventually it loads without the error and I can go about what I was doing.

Does anyone have any idea what's causing this error? I had never seen it prior to 4.8 but apparently whatever is causing it is also present in 4.7 (according to the original post above).

By the way, the full error message is:

A critical error has occurred.
Multiple controls with the same ID 'ScriptManager' were found. FindControl requires that controls have unique IDs.

I have this appearing on the Add Modules page, the File Manager Page, several content pages on my site, etc. It's appearing more and more frequently and it's starting to get very frustrating having to reload pages multiple times to accomplish what should be very simple tasks.

If anyone can help troubleshoot this PLEASE do!
