When I double click on th vsi file for the starter kit, I get to a certain point and then I get an error from the Visual Studio Content Installer when it tries to install the Compiled Modules.  The status given is: "Installation stopped because the directory for the ProjectType value did not exist.  The project type is invalid for your installation of Visual Studio.

I am using VWD 2005 Express Edition.  I also tried VWD 2008 Express Edition with the same result.

Any suggestions?  Thank you.

I get the same error. The install docs don't even say to rename the .zip starter kit file as .vsi. I discovered this after many hours of searching. Why so much inacuracy for such a small deal as a simple install?

Here's the solution for others that have moved the default 'My Documents' folder and are now getting the install error: "Installation stopped because the directory for the ProjectType value did not exist.  "

Google for and install filemon.exe to monitor file access, keep it running and run that last part of the installer. Let it fail with that error. Now go back to filemon and see the error. It will show which folder was not found against your installer process.

For me in any case, it turned out to be

C:\Documents and Settings\UsernameXXXX\My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Templates\ProjectTemplates\Visual Web developer

I created that manually and everything worked fine
