Hi,

I realize this almost assuredly has been covered before, but I can’t seem to find what I’m looking for.  Can anyone give me some tips on enhancing the performance of DNN?  I currently have 3.2.2 but will be upgrading to 4.x soon.  I’d like to improve performance of the home page most.  Any info you can provide would be great.  Thanks

I was looking at this yesterday - for my new DNN3 XD site - but i'm not upgrading to 4 for some time since I think the modules I have installed won't work, but apart from that - I was thinking of looking at the HTTP compression options, and I saw a module on Snow - it's called slipstream - and it's by Jerry Sophorn (sorry for incorrect spelling)  It does something to the white space, he's got a few things on his site like that.

However, I have heard several people looking for him and not able to find him, so I would hope the module is available with source. I think it was priced around $69.00US.

I know that Scott McCulloch - http://www.smcculloch.net has informaiton on the compression and I believe that John Mitchell is on the team so these would be the best guys to approach.

Hope this helps a bit.

Nina

Hi nina,

Thanks for the reply.  I'm not sure HTTP compression will help, my main concern is the first time the home page is loaded.  Once that page has been browsed, the site is more or less OK (although I will take your advice once the site has stabilized a bit).  I've been tempted to write a javascript, that will refresh the browser periodically, and run it from another location.  Far from ideal, but I'm not sure what else I can do.  Any other ideas?

Thanks again!!

HTTP Compression is great and it's really easy to set up  I definatly recommend it as I've noticed DNN site seem to be pretty BIG.  :)  Anyway...

If you have control of the server and the IIS process for your site you can set it up to not stop your application after a certian amount of time.  If that's not an option play with differnet cache settings.  I noticed that some of my sites work better when using threads for scheduling too.  Other than that look at your log files and see when the application stops then set up a ping that hits your site every 30 min - 1 hour or so.

Check in the 3rd party modules or google but I'm sure I've seen one that will do a keepalive for you.
