Hi,

I've uploaded a WMV file to a DNN portal (secure file system) and noted that it is renamed with a '.resource' file extension, when I viewed the DNN server file system directly from Windows.

I'm trying to upload this WMV so that it is protected by the DNN authentication system, so that I can stream it via Windows Media Services, but only if you're logged into DNN, as that will authenticate the user.

The renaming of the WMV is causing a problem with this as I can't stream a file ending in '.resource'.

If I rename the file in Windows back to 'whatever.wmv', then it dissappears from the DNN File Manager.

Is there a way to prevent DNN from renaming the uploaded files?

Thanks,
Paul

Paul; Which version of DNN are you running? Was this a clean installation or upgraded from a prior DNN version? If an upgrade what was the prior DNN version? How large is the WMV file you're using? Thanks,

Hi Ken. Thanks for responding. This DNN install was upgraded to 04.09.03 a while back. Unfortunately, I am unsure what the previous version was, but it wasn't that out of date. It was most likely about 1 year before that that it was a virgin install. The WMV I'm testing this with is just over 4MB, but I hope to use a larger file of around 150-200MB. I have noticed that when uploading the WMV to the DNN Standard File System, the filename extension is not changed. It is only changed when uploaded to the Secure File System or Secure Database. I'm trying to protect the video a little bit by streaming it via WIndows Media Services. The content is actually a PPT that I'll convert using MS Producer into WMV. So if my approach won't work, then I'll need to come up with another idea. I like the streaming idea because most casual users won't know how to copy/capture it, but I'm aware it'll never be completely secure. :-( Do you reckon my plans are scuppered? ;-) Thanks, Paul

Paul, this is intended behaviour if you are using "secure" folders. if you need a secure location for streaming, you need to use an off site location and a 3rd party module to upload files to this location. Besides, I suggest upgrading to 4.9.5 for security reasons, it should be a really easy task.

Hi Sebastian, Thanks for your reply. I have the Windows Media Services streaming server on the same server as the DNN server as I don't expect heavy concurrent use. You mention a 3rd party module to upload to this location, do you have one in mind, or any examples? Thanks for the upgrade tip too. Many thanks Paul
