I have installed DNN 4.3.1 in my webhost and it works perfectly. The only strange thing is that the first time I access the website a Windows authentication window pops up asking for login and password. Well, if I fullfill the login and password for my user configured in SQL Server database, the site opens and I navigate perfecty without being annoyed again with the authentication message. I asked someone else to visit the website from another machine and the message did not appear for this person. She navigated without having to fullfill any authentication pop-up. The authentication was requested only for my first access.

Well, the website was left with no access from friday to sunday (today). I have just visited it and the pop-up appeared again. The strange thing is that today I decided to click CANCEL button. I did not authenticate. When I refreshed the page, it did open normally, without the website asking me again for an authentication.

I have the sensation this problem has to do with very simple configuration, maybe on my host, but probably in my web.config (possibly in my connection string). Any ideas on possible solution? Thanks a lot.

Thanks for the answer, but... Does it really have to do with my IE configurations? It generates an ASP.NET error. I have set my customErrors mode="Off" to see a detailed error description. This is the error generated when I try to access the web address for the first time and I hit CANCEL instead of fullfilling user name and password to authenticate. It seems to be something that would be solved if I just set the approppriate permissions, but all the folders in my application are already configured as WRITE permission. Thanks for the help.

ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}\ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true"/>, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user.

To grant ASP.NET access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Highlight the ASP.NET account, and check the boxes for the desired access.

Wow, that is really weird. I tried this thing you have suggested and actually deleted the comments with no success unfortunately. My host told me identity impersonate=true is set in their machine.config. Could this problem be related to that? It could be some problem related to their machine.config settings?

The strange thing is that no matter what I fullfill in the box, if I refresh the page, DNN starts normally... It could work well for hours... untill the next time DNN starts or the next time I update web.config file. Then the problem happens again.

To see the detailed error log you must set customErrors mode = Off. Did you try that?
