I'm looking to replace my present dnnMenu with a menu that will help me accomplish the following: I'm running DNN4.4

I have a horizontal menu that is set not to display child pages.  Child pages are in a vertical menu in my left pane.  I want the vertical menu to expand vertically (downward-no flyout) and show sub child links either via a user click or by hovering over the first child link.   If you know of a menu to accomplish this, could you also include a CSS example or point me to one that uses the recommended menu to accomplish this.  Thanks for any help.

The Snapsis CSS NavMenu will do this.

It has a setting to only display the Active parent's child menu items, and you can also set it to expand further child items only after a click.

Ok John...I'll purchase it and give it a try.  Just to clarify and get some understanding of where to start:

I still want a horizontal menu that does not show any child tabs.  When the user selects one of the horizontal tabs (Example - About Us) they are directed to that page where the child tabs of About Us are displayed in the left pane. Any child link may or may not have sub child links.  The user would have to click the child link to reveal any sub child links that may be associated with it.  Is there a way to make the user aware that the child link contains sub child links (tabs)?

Would I use the skin object twice, once in the horizontal menu pane and once in the left pane? Will the CSS Selected id work in such a way that if a parent tab is selected it will remain colored while a child tab is selected and that tab remained colored also? I'm wanting to use color of selected links sort of like breadcrumbs to help the user figure out where their at. Thanks for anymore help you could offer.  My site is already built (school site) but I'm running into navigation issues as more and more pages get added.

The current menu does not mark any parent links as having children, but I could add that.

Yes, you can put as many instances as you want on a page. This site actually uses 5 different instances http://www.littletonpublicschools.net/. One for the Home & Calendars links, One for the Left Horizontal menu at the top, One for the Right Horizontal Menu at the top, One for the Left Vertical Menu, and one for the Right vertical menu when there are 3rd and higher levels.

Will the CSS Selected id work in such a way that if a parent tab is selected it will remain colored while a child tab is selected and that tab remained colored also?

Yes, each child in the selected chain has a SelectedTab selector class added to it, and they can also be styled separately because they also have a selector class to indicate their level.

Hi John,

I purchased the menu and have it installed and working on my site.  Funny, I called Littleton Public Schools months ago to find out about their site and they mentioned Snapsis.  I still have a few questions and need some more direction:

I am going to continue to use the dnnMenu skin object for my horizontal menu that only displays the parent tabs.  I am using the CSSNav skin object to display the child tabs of the parent items in the left hand pane.  These child tabs may or may not have sub child tabs.  I want the child menu in the left hand pane to automatically expand and show any sub child items it may contain. No matter how I adjust the properties found in the dev guide and also the show property not mentioned in the guide, I either get all links (parents -child -sub child) showing or just child tabs showing.  I don't know how to get just only the child tabs and any sub child tabs showing in the left hand pane. Does continuing to use the dnnMenu for parent tabs cause any issues I may be overlooking?Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul
