The DNN Core User Accounts Module is built to be used by Admins. It checks for Admin rights for authorizing permissions.

I had a situation, where I needed to allow Members in a particular role to have access to User Accounts (without assigning them Admin role). There were more customizations needed (like I needed the username to be automatically generated from the User's First & Last Name, e.g. rs1).

So, I have built a custom module on the lines of DNN User Accounts module. Along with other things, it allows users to upload images. There is a sample image below. See if this suits you:

The reason I would like to have the image upload tool in the core dnn profile property editor is so I can require the user to upload an avatar (User Photo) during the registration process. I would then be able to use the image with the User Directory Module by Effority.

As I said, I needed customizations. One of those was to have a User Profile during Registration. And that profile includes the image too.

So, in my Module, the user can actually upload the image as part of the registration process. Whether that image is compulsarily required for Registration, or whether the user is allowed to update the image are all Module Settings, that can be set by an Authorized person, having Edit or Host permission for the Module.

If you are interested, I might arrange an online demo of my module on one of my DNN installations!!!

We had the extension to upload profile images in place in the german usergroup site. Unfortunately that functionality is more or less broken, as the core profile is now ajaxed. Uploading a file requires a full page postback - so its really not a trivial task to implement such a control. I have a working control here that was posted a while ago by a community member whose site is now down for whatever reason, again, that control also only works with full postbacks.

If I rember correctly, Bill from wesNet also has an image upload control that mimics ajaxed uploads and I agree that this would be a nice core feature to be implemented.

To make a long story short, I don't have a a working solution at the moment but I certainly will start working again on the issue after DNN 5 is out.
