How easy would it be for someone to write the MS Access (Jet) Data Provider/Drivers for DotNetNuke 3?

Are there new functionality that would limit MS Access? All I just want is the user account, minimalist setup to get DotNetNuke 3 running.

It would just take someone the time to write the provider for it. How long that would actually take is debatable, depends on who is doing it. There isn't anything, afaik, stopping anyone from creating such a product, other than why use access when you can use a free version of SQL server?

I want to develop a website which is small and doesn't rely on installing other products other than .NET redist. Basically it's to do with deployment, ease & duration of deployment, and I want it to be as easy & painless as possible.

The free SQL Express is for personal use only I believe. It's not for commercial use.

So you are telling me that it's possible to use MS Access for DNN3? Is it a matter of porting the MS Access Provider from DNN2 to DNN3?

it is possible to use access as long as you have a provider, but you can't just port the dnn2 one as dnn3 added the microsoft memberrole component. Microsoft recently released the provider toolkit which should help you if you decide to try to create one.

Also, SQL express is fine to use in production, a number of companies are already offering hosting deals where they include sql express.

Not true, see microsoft.com for details.
