Need your help.  I am trying to display a live video (webcam) on a portion of my web page.  I am not a programmer but I am capable of taking modules from the community and developing web pages thanks to all of your hard work.

I have a D-Link DCS6620G camera that I would like to show the video/audio from on a portion of my web page.  I am not hung up on using this camera if there is a better solution.  I know this is done every day, I just don't know how to make it work in the DNN modules I have.  If there is a module out there that I need to acquire I can do that as well, just not sure what is available for this application.

Thanks in advance

Mike

 Hi Mike

We have some live streams running from some "nest-cams" up in some New Forest trees.

The signal is sent from the camera via microwave links to a PC running Windows Media Encoder 9. This is a free DL from MS.
WME encodes the stream and pushes this up to our server - note we had to get a dedicated server as most ISPs do not provide enough access to IIS.
Windows Media services then outputs the stream to your website's player.

The player need not be a module. We are using the Silverlight version of the Open Video project player now - a few files in the website root and some code in an Html module.  http://www.openvideoplayer.com/

The camera simply needs to be one that is "seen" by WME.

Sorry this is such a basic answer - it is my intention to write a proper "How to article" on this subject but  very busy at the moment.

I posted some generic streaming information as part of this post.

There is also some decent info to be found on MS TechNet

AFAIK: There are no dnn video modules that accept live streams.

Ian,

I am trying to implement the Silverlight version of openvideoplayer in DNN4.9.4, to support live streams and on demand broadcasts from my windows media server.    I have not had success with getting the player to work in DNN, though I have had success running the player on an HTML page, even from within the DNN install, so I am sure the server and network connections are fine.

When I add the object code for the player in an HTML module, is shows nothing.  Besides adding some of the files from openvideoplayer into the root of the install, and adding the code for the player in an HTML Module, was any thing else needed?     Could you possibly share which files had to be in DNN root, and could you possibly share the code placed into the HTML module?

Assistance from anyone working with openvideoplayer in DNN would be greatly appreciated.   It is the best player that I have found so far that supports live streaming.  To my knowledge, there are no existing modules that support live broadcast streaming.

Thank you.

OVP works fine in DNN. However I use rel 5 as it is prepared for Silverlight.

I also use my own module in codplex as a container for OVP http://dnnslmedia.codeplex.com/

I just copy the OVP.xap to the root of the portal and but the init parameters in the settings and it works fine.

I havent tested all functions in OVP but I asume it works fine in DNN.

You can find the running version here

Thank you for the info Jan.

I had not yet stepped into DNN5, but I created an install this morning and OVP works great in a Text/HTML module.
I guess it is time to migrate a site or two to DNN5

Thanks again!
