Register a new account

In the Users table set IsSuperUser = 1 for this new account

Also in the aspnet_membership table make sure IsLocked = 0

I think this is the easiest way to do it.

Thanks.

whatever works man, it depends on your configuration.  I spoke in generic terms because I cant assume you have your portal setup with registration enabled.

The email probably works fine, you may need to set the smtp parameters to get it working. The catch 22 in your case is that you need to be logged in as superuser for Host settings in the first place and the password is never sent in the password reminder email to a superuser.

The elegant solution is to change Portal.UserRegistration to 2 (public), register a new account, change the Users.IsSuperUser to true, login with that account.

Either copy the Password and PasswordSalt from the new account to the old SuperUser/Host account and login using that password or unregister the old SuperUser account. Don't forget to update your email to catch any password reminder attempts.

I hope this is of some help to you.

... in fact I only knew it existed by looking in the SQL Server database tables.

What is this account used for? Do I need to know the password? Is there a default?

Thanks,

... the Host account seems to be an automatically generated 'Super User' account, & by setting password storage to Clear in the web.config before running the DNN installation, I found that the default password is 'dnnhost', similar to admin's default password of 'dnnadmin'.
