Can you give more details? Did you give users edit permision, If so they can edit all events not just ones they "own".   If not a screen shot or a link to your site could be very helpful.  I am useing the same verision you are.

Have you had a look at the Smart-Thinker Events module? It has a slightly different focus to the core events module...

Forget the above response, I doubel checked , if you give edit permissions in Module settings, it does indeed only give edite permission to events that the users owns,  This is different behavior than most other modules but it does appear to exhibit the behavior I looking for, thank you for making me double check.
