this was after updating within the host settings
Use Friendly Urls off
http://www.domainname.com/Default.aspx?tabid=210
Use Friendly Urls on
http://www.domainname.com/Services/tabid/210/Default.aspx

should it not be
http://www.domainname.com/Services.aspx

i had to manualy go into the web.config to urlFormat="humanfriendly" to get the correct format.

I noticed that humanfriendly is off by default in 6.1.3 also. I turned it on and am having some problems with all urls redirecting to the home page. Maybe there is a bug?

A couple of things to add into this topic specific to upgrading a site from DNN 4.8x up to 6.2x

1. like mentioned above, we found that the web.config needed to be updated, the original line from dnn 4.8 was

and needed simply the end value of the urlFormat added to the line to make it work

so to clarify in this case, it was not that it was set to a different value, it's that it was not present and needed to be added.

2. the second, and more important item is that this immediately broke the main navigation, and this has to do with the fact that that TabPath had been cleared out in the Tabs table. For more on that topic, look up the issue with TabPath being removed at one point in DNN 6.1, however, for this thread, important part to know is that you can repair / replace the TabPath values with this handy SQL script and notes from RMJCS
