After the update all the descriptions for my images are lost. I've also noticed that the "title" and "name" are all the same now.

This is acting like a new metadata file was created.  I would try to "synchronize".  I will try to reproduce this locally.

Is that under the "maintenance" section? If so, I get

An error has occurred.
Unhandled error loading module.

When trying to go to "maintenance"

Yes, it is.  I was informed of this problem about an hour ago.  The fix is to go into the Maintanence.ascx and look for Gallery_HeaderText.  Unless it has CssClass=" in front of it, it should just be HeaderText.  HeaderText is a property for the grid.
