Hi all. Maybe somebody has suffered the same problem as I have: We're having quite a big intranet site running on DNN 3.1.1, SQL server 2000, IIS6 on windows server 2003 (with IIS compression on), pretty much without any problem (or so it seemed), except one problem: When downloading files through the file manager (or the repository module, which uses the same mechanism) files come out 0 bytes. I've tried disabling compression (on static or dynamic content), bypassing proxy servers, examining logs for errors (no visible errors), but I'm now out of ideas. Did anybody else experience this problem before, or know of a solution ? Downloading the normal way (not with the postback but with the normal file links) works perfect.

Hi sentry23,

I have exactly the same problem as you have. Did you find a solution? Here is my post : http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/ForumsDotNetNuke/tabid/795/forumid/108/threadid/54559/scope/posts/Default.aspx

Thanks for any feedback !

Regards,
Fabian

Hi fabianus. We did find a solution, and actually one i did mention above: we disabled HTTP compression on dynamic content. This initially didn't fix it, but after a server reset instead of a IIS reset, things started to work. You can still tweak it by disallowing specific paths for compression or just the aspx files, but since it also caused some other issues in our case, we found that compression on dynamic content in general had more negative then positive effects.

Hi sentry23,

Thanks a lot for taking time to reply!

In fact I did try to make it work with disableing IIS compression, but it does not fix the problem in my case (beside the fact that I would regret not having IIS compression).

Any idea? :-)

Regards,
Fabian

Hi Fabian, Well, that sort of limits things since this was exactly the problem, but lets see.. Is your site larger then 2 GB ? That has caused quite some problems with the repository module, but not with downloading empty files. Another issue we had in parallel was that the file manager was not removing files from the file-manager database when they were removed from the DNN folder outside the file-manager. Other then that i'd say that it's worth to have a look at any other compression modules you might have installed, but after that, I'm sort of done with ideas what else it might be. (And are you running the latest version of both DNN (either the 3 or 4 branch) and the repository module?) Cheers, Leon
